How to combine tradition and innovation in architecture

Modern architecture in harmony with history and culture
What is always crucial in architecture is the preservation of tradition to maintain cultural and historical identity. Although the incorporation of modern architectural elements is necessary to create a sustainable lifestyle and improve energy efficiency, it is equally important to respond to current needs while respecting nature and honoring our traditional and historical heritage.
Mallorca combines tradition and modern design
Mallorca is one of those places where timeless charm and a modern style come together. Between the rugged landscapes, rustic fincas and rich history, you can see how tradition and innovation work together. The island is an exciting mix of different cultures – each bringing its own style.
Our projects on Mallorca
We’ve created with Studio Kejo three projects on Mallorca: Finca Campanet, Finca Anjora and Portocolom. In each of them, you can see the same clear focus – staying close to nature and tradition. By using local materials and traditional craftsmanship, we create a natural connection between architecture and the landscape. At the same time, modern design elements make the spaces ready for a sustainable lifestyle. When this blend succeeds, more than just a building is created – a place where tradition, nature, and modern living come together in perfect balance.

Finca Anjora – where classic Mallorcan architecture meets nature
From first sketch to final details, Finca Anjora marks Studio Kejo’s first large-scale project – with a strong focus on preserving Mediterranean architectural style. Set on a 15,000 m² plot, the house is all about staying connected to the land and embracing a sustainable way of living. Studio Kejo took care of both the design and construction plans. By using local materials and traditional craftsmanship, this two-story finca blends naturally into the sloped terrain (with a 20% incline). Studio Kejo also stayed closely involved during the build, working side by side with the construction team to bring together modern architecture and timeless craftsmanship.
Finca Campanet – modern finca in a traditional Mallorcan setting
Located in the north of Mallorca, Finca Campanet was designed and developed by Studio Kejo – from architecture to interior. What makes this project special is the mix of old and new: traditional roofs, multiple bedrooms, living spaces and terraces, all built in classic Mallorcan style, combined with modern techniques and smart design solutions. Studio Kejo created a space where a family can enjoy a comfortable, sustainable lifestyle – without losing the warm, authentic feel of a true Mallorcan finca.
Portocolom – redesigning modern living in a traditional setting
Unlike the first two projects, Studio Kejo joined this one at a later stage – with the task of rethinking a modern apartment in a more rural, traditional environment. The challenge? Working with an existing structure, which often limits what’s possible. Still, the goal stayed the same: creating a space that balances comfort, modern needs, and a deep respect for the local surroundings. By using local materials and traditional craftsmanship, we brought a sense of place and calm into the design – blending old and new in the best way possible.
At Studio Kejo, we combine a strong sense of place with clear design vision. Whether it’s a new build or a redesign, we work closely with clients to create spaces that are thoughtful, functional, and timeless. Contact us for details.
